In 2008, Bonifacio Comandante developed seven forms of movement, miming the ancient script and referred to it as the Liping Baybayin. He developed a fitness dance and aerobic exercise, not patterned after Western fitness programs but acting out each Baybayin character. He describes another wellness exercise “to be better than Tai-chi and smoother (to perform) because Baybayin (characters) are not angular (in form).”

Araw ng mga patay skull
Filipinos in the Philippines celebrate their version of “Day of the Dead” on Nov.1 where they stay at the cemetery the whole day and even nights to spend time with relatives (living & dead). The Baybayin reads “Araw ng mga patay”. I used a permanent ink marker. More photos soon. This is skull 1 of 3.

An Introduction to Baybayin
I just received a production copy of my Baybayin manual today. I’ll look it over to make sure my spelling and grammar isn’t too bad 🙂 I plan make it available for ordering online this week. A digital version will also be available. Check out the video below.
New prints
I haven’t really displayed my prints on this site. They are mostly for sale at my events. Anyway, I’ll have a couple more this month as part of my “Baybayin Sand Series”.

I’m planning to make it down south for the 1st time to promote my artwork at a couple Filipino festivals in September and October. Follow me on Twitter and Facebook for the latest updates.

Baybayin art the iPhone
Along with Baybayin, technology is a passion of mine. Thanks to the iPhone, I’m able to do both. Here’s a video of some the better painting applications I use to write Baybayin. While there are a lot of paint iPhone apps, there are the best.
If you like this, you might want to check out the Baybayin tutorial iPhone app. It only costs $0.99 and having a conversation with the programmer, the next release will have some great features.
Baybayin on bamboo
I initially tried to carve the script into the bamboo as our ancestors did. It didn’t work because I didn’t have a dagger. Instead, I used a wood burner. The script reads Tuloy ang laban..

Movie: Green Rocking Chair. A Juan Baybayin Story

Came across this documentary today. I badly want to see this. Too bad it’s not on DVD yet. It was released 2008 in the Philippines and directed by Roxlee.
The filmmaker’s personal search for Baybayin or Alibata, the original Filipino writings before the Spaniards came and colonized the Philippines in 1521. The search will determine of such ancient alphabet still exists and practices all over the archipelago.
