Coming December 2011….Siya (siyascent.com)

It’s a scent inspired by the Manila nightlife. I called it Siya because I wanted it to be for a woman or man. I’ll have a production sample in about a week. Besides Baybayin prominently featured on the bottle, the packaging will be custom artwork hand embellished and individually numbered.

Details and presale info will soon be announced on the mailing list

Room 109 Dwinnelle Plaza (UC Berkeley campus)
FREE admission

Can’t make it? I have 2 more talks/workshops lined up in the next month in Daly City and UCSF. Stay tuned….

EVENT: Ka logo hat launching 10/8

ATTENTION PHILIPPINES

My Ka logo hat collaboration with Wipcaps will be launching 10/8 8PM @ Urban Athletics Level 2 Greenbelt 3. Why 8PM, it’s a party…

On top of the crazy party, we have one more treat for you in form of a special drop. As part of the WIP Caps HeadStart series, Urban Athletics will get a HeadStart on the ‘Ka’ release!

Starting this Saturday and for the next 2 weeks, the Christian Cabuay x WIP Caps ‘Ka’ collab will ONLY be available at Urban Athletics before it will be available elsewhere. You too should get a HeadStart and cop the ‘Ka’ cap at Urban Athletics!

FREE GIFT

Buy the hat? Send me a photo of you wearing it at christian@baybayin.com with the subject Ka Wipcaps and I’ll draw you your initials (1st and last name) in Baybayin and send it via email. Limited to 1st 50

Starting this Saturday October 8, WIP will be stocked at Urban Athletics (or uA for short). There are two good reasons why you should make it down to uA this Saturday.

First-up, uA will be kicking-off their in-store party series called Pulse Saturdays. For the first edition of Pulse Saturdays, they are featuring the KINGS ON DECK mixtape by DJ Scratchmark and our boy and WIP flag bearer MC Dash. Some special live performances and lots more cooked-up. So be sure to check it out!

Aginid, Bayok sa Atong Tawarik

Dagat of Dawa Tattoo in Cebuy City and Boracay recently uploaded some images of “Aginid, Bayok sa Atong Tawarik” (Glide on: an Ode to Our History) by Jovito Abellana in 1952.

According to Jovito Abellana, his great grandfather found the history of Cebu written in Baybayin (Alibata) on pandan leaves that he translated in the script.

Here’s a photo of the text from Nick Elizar of Balintawak Escrima

What’s interesting is that he uses the trailing kudlit to cancel the vowel (click on the image for a bigger photo). Here’s a good writeup on the book.

What do you think? Legit? Something like the stone?

So who has a PDF copy they can share with me? Salamat

At the opening reception the day before the event, participating authors were invited for a meet and greet with former Philippine President, Fidel Ramos. There were lots of important people including national artists who were flown in from the Philippines.
